Why septic tanks are important in house.
Most of the people would not want to discuss the system and mechanism of a septic tank. Even the word septic tank will irritate them and they would give you negative remarks about septic tanks. Some will turn their face away with disgust but it is also true that septic tanks get so much negative reputation which is undeserved and they are misjudged by people most of the time.
Sewage systems rely heavily on septic tanks and in one way or another family’s home are also dependent on a septic system or a septic tank only at times. You can understand its importance once the septic tank in your home stops functioning. In order to understand why are they important and why should we have septic systems and septic tanks in our house, we need to understand how they work.
What do septic tanks do? Simple they hold waste water. So, every time you flush your toilet, clean your dishes or wash your clothes, the waste water goes straight into a septic tank. The next time you are taking an hour long shower, do remember, all the water is going down the drain into the septic tank. From the septic tank these liquids go into the sewage system. So this can easily make us understand that septic tanks are a main component of sewage systems.
Now, what happens when the water gets into the septic tank? Septic tanks have two chambers inside… waste enters the first chamber where the solid material in the waste water settles down and water passes onto the second chamber. Both the chambers are separated by a middle wall. The solids in the first chamber are digested using an anaerobic environment which is developed in the tank. Now, after the solids are digested, more liquid enters the second chamber and is leeched away while the remaining dirt in the first chamber is settled down and it gets eliminated in the soil. This however will only happen to organic material and some material which does not decompose will need to be removed manually.
